2001 Icemen participate in the CT Yankees TournamentJune 13th, 2008The newest and youngest Icemen team hit the ice for the first time June 13-15, 2008 participating in the CT Yankees Tournament at STR in Stamford, CT. The 01's were off to a great start Friday morning winning their first game 13-7 over the LI Ducks, the powerful scoring of forwards Nolan Whitlock, Tommy Harty, Jake Dunlap and Nolan Fitzgerald gave these mites their innagural win. Saturday brought another win over the NE Generals 6-5. This game saw strong performances from Aidan Curran, Trey Bourque and Zach Garneau. Putting points on the board also were Matty Powers and Tyler Young. Preston Nerris and Patrick Vetter were a mainstay on defence, and goalie Cole Chingris put in a solid performance between the pipes. The weekend came to a close Sunday with a loss in the Semi-Finals to the eventual 2001 division tournament champs, the NJ Revolution. Despite the loss the rookie Icemen displayed a solid team effort and impressive skill in their first tournament experience. The 2001 team looks forward to a full round of tournaments in the spring of 2009. 1999 Icemen travel to the National AAA Festival, Candia, QuebecJune 5th, 2008The Boston Icemen 99's traveled north of the border to play in the Festival National AAA tournament in Montreal. The tournament showcased 8 very talented AAA tournament teams at the '99 level, the Icemen being the only team from the USA. The Icemen opened up the tournament with a 5-2 win over Performe Plus. Performe Plus started the scoring off in the first period with back to back goals. Marc Gatcomb (MXI-EHF) got the Icemen started with a goal late in the first period making the score 2-1 Performe Plus after 1 period. The Icemen tied it up in the 2nd with a goal from Cam Barbagallo(Top Gun-EHF) and then took the lead with another goal from Marc Gatcomb. Performe Plus finished the 2nd period off with a late goal sending both teams to the locker room between periods with the Icemen on top 3-2. The third period was all Icemen. The Icemen came out storming with a goal from Cam Barbagallo (his second) and finished off the scoring with a nice goal from Jack Nisbet (BJT-EHF). Icemen goalie Jimmy Scannell(BJT-EHF) had a fantastic game in net and earned the "Player of the Game " award. Final score 5-2 Icemen. The Icemen were back a few hours later to play the second game of the round robin against Hurricanes. The Icemen started the scoring with the only goal of the first period from Jacob Mendeszoon( VJW-NEHL) assisted by Mikey Bermingham (MMF-EHF) and Jack Swarbrick(Top Gun-EHF). The Hurricanes tied it up with the only goal in the second period sending the teams into the locker room tied 1-1 after 2 periods. Once again the third period belonged to the Icemen who came out flying with 4 unanswered goals. Marc Gatcomb started it off with a goal assisted by Sean Doherty(SSK-EHF) and Jason Dobay(BJT-EHF) and then Jack Nisbet made it 3-1 with a goal assisted by Sean Doherty. Mendeszoon then made it 4-1 with a goal assisted by Swarbrick and Doherty(his 3rd assist of the game). Mendeszoon completed his "hat trick" with a late goal assisted by Swarbrick(3rd assist of the game) and Cam Barbagallo. Jacob Mendeszoon earned the "Player of the Game" award. Final score 5-1 Icemen. The Icemen's next match up was against Rockets Rive-Nord. The Rockets scored the only goal of the first period making it 1-0 Rockets after 1. The Rockets scored an early goal in the second period making it 2-0 Rockets after 2 periods. Once again the Icemen came out flying in the third period with three unanswered goals. Cam Barbagallo started the Icemen off with a goal assisted by Jacob Mendeszoon. Sean Doherty then tied things up with a goal assisted by Marc Gatcomb and Jack Nisbet. Doherty then got the go ahead goal with 5:23 remaining in the game after receiving a nice pass from Jack Nisbet. The Rockets did not go away, tying the game with only 36 seconds remaining. Icemen goaltender Jimmy Scannell had another great game in net. Sean Doherty also played great and received the "Player of the Game" award. Final score tied 3-3. A few hours later the Icemen played their final game of the round robin against the Montreal Metro Ice Dragons. The Icemen waisted no time in this contest scoring 5 first period goals. Cam Barbagallo opened up the scoring with a goal assisted by Joe Dunlap(Top Gun-EHF). Jack Nisbet scored with assists going to Gatcomb and Doherty. Barbagallo got his second of the game assisted by Dunlap. Marc Gatcomb scored assisted by Nisbet and Anthony Nazarian(Top Gun-EHF) closed out the first period scoring with assists going to Dunlap and Nisbet. First period ended with the Icemen on top 5-1. Defensemen Jason Dobay opened up the second period scoring with a goal assisted by Dunlap and Nazarian. Cam Barbagallo scored with assists again going to Nazarian and Dunlap. Jake Aleksa(Top-Gun-EHF) closed out the second period scoring with a power play goal assisted by Mendeszoon and sending both teams to the locker room after 2 periods with the Icemen on top 8-1. Defensemen Mikey Bermingham scored an unassisted 3rd period goal making the final score 9-2 Icemen. Joe Dunlap had a great game (5 assists) and Jack Nisbet earned the "player of the game " award for his outstanding effort. The win secured the Icemen the #1 seed going into the semi finals and also kept the Icemen undefeated in round robin tournament play so far in the 2008 season (6-0-1). The Icemen were matched up against the Cantonniers Elites AAA for the semi-final game. The first and second periods went scoreless with both teams having good scoring chances turned away by fantastic goaltending. Again, the Icemen came out of the locker room for the third period and put the game away. Cam Barbagallo started things off with a goal assisted by Dobay and then Barbagallo scored another unassisted goal to make it 2-0. Jacob Mendeszoon scored assisted by Swarbrick and Aleksa and Jack Swarbrick closed out the scoring with a goal assisted by Dobay and Aleksa. Cam Barbagallo received "Player of the Game" honors and Jimmy Scannell recorded the shutout. Final, 4-0 Icemen. The win put the Icemen in the finals against Performe Plus . 6 games in 3 days proved to be a little too much for the Icemen. The reinforced Performe Plus team took a 4-1 lead after 2 periods with the Icemen only goal coming from Sean Doherty assisted by Gatcomb. The 3rd period proved to be much of the same with Perfome Plus winning the game 6-1. Marc Gatcomb received the"Player of the Game" award for his outstanding play throughout the tournament. Defensemen Joe Nagle(BJT-EHF) and Austin Marini(BJT-EHF) both had strong defensive performances throughout the tournament.
